Lot of foreigners says, when they hear Thai language , it is sound like a song. "Thai people, they don't speak, they sing" :-). Thai language is tonal language and can be difficult for foreigners to speak because the same word with different ton can have absolutely different meaning. Anyway I know some foreigners who stay in Thailand long time and they can speak Thai language very well.
With this article I don't wont to teach you Thai language, I would just teach you some easy words that can be helpful if you decide to visit Thailand.
"Sawady Krab" - means :Hello" and also means "Bye", but if you say just "bye" they will understand because they also use that word.
"Khobkhun Krab" - means "Thank you" and "Khobkhun Mag Na Krab" - "Thanks a lot".
"Mai Pen Rai" - is the answer on "Khobkhun Krab" and means "You're welcome".
Just "Krab" don't have some special meaning. You can use it on the end of every sentence if you wont to be polite.
"Shai" - "Yes".
"Mai" - "No".
If you don't like spicy food you should know "Mai Pad Le Mai Sai Phrik" - no spicy and don't put chili. If you just say "Mai Pad" (no spicy) you have big chance to have chili in your food :-). If you wont just little bit spicy you can say "Pad Nit Noy" (little bit spicy), but you should know that Thai people eat very spicy food, so little bit spicy for them can be very spicy for you :-) .
In some food Thai people put sugar and if don't like that you should say "Mai Sai Nam Taaam" - means don't put sugar.
"Khotot" - (second letter "o" is little bit longer in pronunciation) means "Sorry".
Those words are enough for the first time and Thai people will like if you say something like this. Anyway, you don't have to be worry, Thai people that they work and live in touristic destinations, they can speak English language.
That's it for now and "Sawady Krab" :-).
